Detector systems

Our detector systems must perform two basic jobs:

• Detect each incoming muon with good timing and spatial information and track it up to the stopping point in the TPC.
• Detect electrons from muons decaying in the TPC with good timing and directional information and track the pointing vectors back to the muon stop location in the TPC.

This information must be recorded by our data acquisition system such that muon-electron pairs and their respective absolute times can be reconstructed unambiguously in the off-line analysis. The distribution of lifetimes obtained from the individual $\mu -e$ time measurements must be free of distortions (cf. chapter 5.4). In the following sections, we describe the detector components in some detail.
