Run Coordinator's Report for 31 March Swing to 1 April Day
Summary
We ran pretty well overnight; the odd halo rate oscillations damped
out. The overall rate is still 1.5 to 2 times higher than prior to beam
studies yesterday. Lost essentially the entire day shift to beam
studies, HVAC repair, and polarimetry.
Significant News
- Steve Wells takes over as RC tomorrow morning prior to the 7:45 AM
meeting.
- We have started taking GMS data all the time now, beginning with run
21036.
- The change in slot order of DMCHs 1-4 had an effect, but not the
desired or expected one (80947).
- Tomorrow will be the last day the daily FOPT beam studies will be
performed unless we specifically request that it can continue. Chao
presented some results at today's 1:30 scheduling meeting that were
interesting and may make it worth continuing to take this data for awhile
yet (it's only 10 hours a day). From Friday to Monday they did observe a
change in response through the accelerator backing up our inability to
feedback. The change from 3 to 4 pass beam seriously impacted the orbits
as well. An unexplained change was observed between yesterday's and
today's FOPT. Sorry if this is a little vague and unclear; I am trying
to recall what was shown very rapidly during the scheduling meeting.
- The HVAC in Hall C was repaired today. The extended beam studies
period was just long enough to cover the repair time.
- Today's polarization measurement yielded an average polariation of
roughly 74%.
- Brian Quinn continued to refine his soldering skills on SDB and LTD
boards throughout today's down time (81019).
- Paul installed the new French interface box and renamed the French
reference directories to remove the "_swapped" suffix (81008).
- Please see the analysis coordinator's report for the current state
of analysis for the experiment (80986).
Plans
- Asymmetry runs on LH2 with 40 ľA of longitudinally
polarized electrons.
- Daily beam studies:
- Thursday: 09:00 to 12:00 followed by 1 hour injector access.
This is the last day a "Daily FOPT" test will be performed unless we
request otherwise. It would probably be wise to continue this short test
for several more days.
- Friday: 09:00 to 11:00
- Moller, IHWP change, and RIP calibrations on Wednesday and Sunday
(?)
- BCM calibration on Thursday
- Short energy modulation run [5 minutes] (?)
- Short Wells plot deadtime study [2.5 hrs] (?)
- Fastbus phototube gain calibration [6 hours] (?)
Concerns
AC in hall
- Non-statistical widths in detectors 13 and 14 of octants 4 and 8
and in detectors 1 and 2 of octants 2 and 6.
Elevated Silviu ratio in detectors 1 and 2 of octants 2 and
6
- Spikes in French electronics
- Apparent increasing frequency of NA LTD errors
- Crosstalk with target IOC and target FSD box when the Musson box is
rebooted remotely
- Changed behavior of BPM 3H00C Y position with respect to other hall
BPMs
- Discrepancy in beam current measured by BCM1/2 and the MPS BCM
