Run Coordinator's Report for 28 March Swing to 29 March Day
Summary
Data taking went smoothly overnight. Day shift spent in beam studies,
polarimetry, and feedback device calibration.
Significant News
- We are attempting to arrange the repair of the Hall C primary AC
unit such that it does not interfere with beam delivery. Contractors do
not need to enter the hall, but they do need access to the top of the
mound covering the hall. That is a radiologically controlled area and
cannot be accessed when there is beam in the hall. The contractors will
diagnose the problem during beam studies tomorrow (Tuesday) and
(hopefully) repair it during beam studies on Wednesday. I have asked the
PD to combine Wednesday's and Thursday's beam studies periods in order to
buy the contractors more time to do the work. He seemed amenable to
that.
- The BCM calibration changed rather significantly when it was
measured on Saturday (80671).
Not sure what would have caused this; still looking into it.
Plans
- Asymmetry runs on LH2 with 40 ľA of longitudinally
polarized electrons.
- Daily beam studies:
- Monday to Wednesday: 09:00 to 12:00
- Thursday to Friday: 09:00 to 11:00
- Moller, IHWP change, and RIP calibrations on Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday after beam studies.
- BCM calibration (after Hall C AC repairs are complete, Friday
perhaps?)
- Requested Test Plans
- FastBus phototube gain calibration (6 hrs) - anytime
- Wells plot deadtime study (5 hrs) - anytime
Concerns
- AC in hall
- Non-statistical widths in detectors 13 and 14 of octants 4 and 8
- Elevated Silviu ratio in detectors 1 and 2 of octants 2 and 6
- Spikes in French electronics
- Apparent increasing frequency of NA LTD errors
- Crosstalk with target IOC and target FSD box when the Musson box is
rebooted remotely
- Changed behavior of BPM 3H00C Y position with respect to other hall
BPMs
- Discrepancy in beam current measured by BCM1/2 and the MPS BCM.
