Run Coordinator's Report for 26 March Swing to 28 March Day
Summary
Pretty smooth running of longitudinally polarized beam on
LH2.
Significant News
- In an attempt to reduce the number of LTD errors, Paul swapped out a
signal distribution board (80491).
This appears to have helped.
- Beam feedback has required a little more intervention than usual the
past two days to keep PZT voltages away from the rails (80499,
80508,
80514,
and several others). We will try to keep running like this until
tomorrow day shift when we change IHWP states and have to recalibrate
anyway.
- Ran for a little while Friday night with the halo target out after
an iocse20 reboot (80519).
Just a reminder to shift crew to check this after the MCC reboots hall
IOCs.
- We tried running energy modulation a few times Friday night and
finally got one that didn't end in a "Broken Pipe" error (80468,
80506).
When this error occurs it means that our client code has lost its
connection to the server controlling the modulation. Leading cause of
this problem appears to be network problems. No harm is done when this
occurs, it just means that the energy is not modulated.
- The primary AC unit in the hall appears to be dying (80546,
80547).
The backup unit has been turned on to supplement (80556).
It did feel markedly more humid in the hall. There does not appear to
be anyway for the shift crew to monitor hall temperature or humidity.
- BCM/BPM calibration data was taken Saturday Day shift (80575).
Analysis of the data indicates an approximately 7% increase in BCM gain
since the previous measurement of March 19. This would resolve the
difference between the currents we have been measuring and the currents
measured by the MPS BCM for the last week. The MCC uses the MPS BCM to
set the beam current. I am not sure if the gain measured on March 19 was
significantly different from previous measurements.
Plans
- Running 40 ľA on LH2 all weekend long.
- Four hours of GMS data daily on swing shift.
- Polarimetry and IHWP change Monday after beam studies.
Concerns
- AC in hall
- Non-statistical widths in detectors 13 and 14 of octants 4 and 8
- Elevated Silviu ratio in detectors 1 and 2 of octants 2 and 6
- Spikes in French electronics
- Apparent increasing frequency of NA LTD errors
- Crosstalk with target IOC and target FSD box when the Musson box is
rebooted remotely
- Changed behavior of BPM 3H00C Y position with respect to other hall
BPMs
- Discrepancy in beam current measured by BCM1/2 and the MPS BCM.
