Run Coordinator's Report - Swing 21 March to Day 22 March 2004
Summary
- Continued taking 40 uA on LH2 overnight.
- Performed a spin dance on day shift to determine good longitudinal
and transverse beam polarization settings (79980,
79972,
and 79983).
- Ended day shift tuning up for production running with transverse
beam.
Concerns and Resolutions
- More strangeness with the beam positions this afternoon while tuning
up for transverse running (79986).
Beam positions are dead on are specs at all four BPMs except Y on 3H00C
which is off by more than 0.5 mm. Have opted to ignore this BPM for
now.
- Target FSD box has failed multiple times necessitating trips into
the hall to power cycle it. In the short term, the FSD box has been
plugged into the same remote reboot module as the Musson box so that now
it can be power-cycled remotely at the cost that it takes the Musson box
with it (79979).
- In the continuing quest to improve the statistical qualities of
French detectors 13 and 14, Jacques replaced the VXI crate containing the
French electronics (79884).
Plans
The plan is to run various combinations of transverse Wien angle
settings, half wave plate states, and targets for the remainder of the
week. This assumes that we can get feedback operational in the
transverse mode. Transmission and beam current are both excellent with
transverse beam. Various accelerator troubles have prevented us from
completing feedback calibration.
If we are unable to establish good transverse running then we will go
back to longitudinal beam.
