RC Summary Wednesday/Thursday
02-19-2004
Difficult to
leave. As many addiction, RC one requires a smooth leaving
... and Steve let me do 1
more day writing this report;-).
Again mixed feeling :-\ with goodies and
bads
- Change to LH2 was made on
Wednesday
morning
- IHWP is now IN since this
morning
- Following PMT gain calibration, new HV file has been
updated
- BCM Calibration and gain change in BCM1 performed
successfully
- Harp scan successfully performed in Hall C
- Data taking on LH2 target with 40 uA
- LH2
target parity quality
- 2.4 hours
for this period
(runs 20003-20020)
- Efficiency loss due to beam trip : 10 % during the night
- Efficiency loss due to Beam parity : 100 % !! after
new PITA/... (see PITA-Changes)
- Overall total of 59.1 hours (runs
19815-20020)
Achievements
during this period:
1) Beam at 40 uA and running with 6
mm halo
target
2) IHWP is now IN (IHWP-IN)
3) Feedback operation and beam parity quality
- Feedback did not operating when beam
came back during the night (Feedback-Changes)
- Data do look good
when the system is operating (see Feedback-ON)
4) 120 Hz are being replayed by the worker (none in this
period)
- Investigation is still underway on January
data (120Hz-January)
5) Observed IN+OUT asymmetry for present (Feb.) LH2 data
have now quite a large statistics and allow precise
tests
and first results. Seems very close to zero.
- see results of work going on (Analysis)
6) G0Integrity result is now reported in an entry by the workers
- (G0Int1, G0Int2
).
7) BCM calibration (BCM-Calib)
and new gain for BCM1 (BCM1)
8) Frequency of NA DNL measurements (NA-DNL)
9) Harp scan with procedure defined (21:37)
and measurement (Harp-data)
10) Analysis going on on DMCH spikes/DT ( Spike,
DT)
and explanations (F-Elec)
11) Tested the SMS backup laptop (SMS
and New-Comp)
On
a more general basis. Mid-Term plan
1) We will likely change the IHWP
state on Saturday (2/21)
- Make a
Moeller measurement before and after
- Make a RIP scan or
just adjust the slope (depends on the change at the injector)
2) BCM calibration need to be done every week.
- Performed
on Wednesday
2/18 in the evening
- Mark
has asked for a gain change in BCM1. Done (see BCM1)
- Data can also be used to look at ToF
changes at different current
- Also can be used to look at Halo rates
variation with current
- Finally this will calibrate the BPM
pedestals
3) Harp scan to calibrate BPM position in Hall C beam line
- Performed
on Wednesday
2/18 in the afternoon
- Run plan made by Paul, thanks
- Had to run without fastfeedback, 20 uA pulsed, raster OFF (Harp-Scan)
- Should help understand the puzzle of halo rate and beam
position
4) Lumi scan on LH2 (asked by Silviu and Jianglai).
- Tentative Next
week. During/after BCM calibration.
- Need target expert
around
- Need to change
administrative limit on beam current
- Al frame target at
20 uA
5) GMS tests to be continued GMS
Concerns
A) ABU
- Need a bit more careful estimate of ABU time versus
BANU
B) Information about changes at the
injector level
- Usually hurt the feedback parameters
- Need to check asap the behavior of the feedback
operation
- Inquire after beam development or difficult beam
restoration
C) Poor efficiency in recovering
after beam condition changes
- The 6 mm halo rate is still acceptable but did increase a
bit last
night
- Is this due to steering or real halo (
- On the other hand as soon we keep the beam stable, the
rates are moving down
- Could be a vacuum problem which could be checked by
looking at halo vs pressure ??
- The recovery time is long, but also there are not too well
defined strategy.
- Need to get a Golden set of parameters. Work underway at
MCC
- Mail from Jay point out an error in script explaining the
loss of information
D) Puzzling situation with BPM
after changes in beam setting
- Need to analyze Harp measurements
