    Run Coordinator's report - January 9th & 10th,  2004

    Friday 9 January

The target FSD box has been updated so that we will be able to run safely on Al frame (g0log entry #72665 ).
Beam was announced in hall C around 6pm.
Just before 7pm, first result on hall A beam energy spread (elog entry  #1189023 ) : they need an improvement of one orrder of magnitude.
At 7:40pm, a laser attenuator problem was reported.
Best estimate for hall C delivery : midnight.
After a call to MCC, we learnt that they need at least 5 hours before sending G0 beam.

    Saturday 10 January

    Accelerator status
1am, the beam is resteered at the injector and the injector optimization restarted.
    2am 40uA G0 beam in the machine.
4:20 Vacuum problem (shut doown in East Arc)
At 7am, MCC people told me that there won't be any beam for the whole day shift.
As we do not have any target I decided to cancel G0 day shift.
At 8:30am the PD told us that they are suspecting a leak somewhere in the accelerator.
Identification of the problem and repair won't allow us to get any beam today and more likely not before tomorrow morning.
Still the first priority remains to work on hall A/C compatibility.
In agreement with the PD, today shifts in Hall C and B have been cancelled.
Nevertheless I made sure that everybody has still in mind to page Kaz as soon as we get the beam.
Both Linacs have been put in restricted access to investigate the problem.
At 2:30 they have fixed the leak and they were starting to pump down.
They said that now they are on the way to restart everything : RF recovery, injector optimization, reviewing the optics, ...
At 7pm, MCC said that it is more likely that no beam will be available before 5am sunday morning.
At 10:30pm, the PD said that it will take at least the owl shift to recover and more likely untill sunday noon.
I cancelled the owl shift and said to Angella (the only one on shift at 8am tomorrow) that I will contact her if any beam is expected.
I hope to have better news tomorrow morning.

    On G0 side ...
    - NA DNL measurements have been performed (grey noise box) Angella and Joachim
    - Some tests have been perform on the YO (extra TDC VME channels) Klaus
    - New FR electronics TDC Differential Linearity Optimizations have been performed Domi and Jacques
    - Understanding of analysis problem when we ran with 9 DMCH boards in progress Paul
    - BPM calibration run Junho
    - Attempt to take FR DNL data from green blocks overnight Jean-Sebastien,Jacques, Domi and Klaus
7:30pm After accelerator recovery update I informed the PD that we are about to turn on some of our  detectors.
He'll make sure with all crew chiefs that NO beam will be sent to hall C without letting me know.
We encountered DAQ problem : TS0 is complaining and its window disappears by itself... (g0log entry  #72713 )
10:45pm I informed the PD that our detectors are turned off so that any beam can be send anytime.
11:30pm we left the counting room
